Rainfall Deficiency Affects Six Districts in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, February 8 (PK): The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, and five other districts have experienced below average rainfall since the start of the year, according to data compiled by the Meteorological department.
The data reveals that while Jammu and Kashmir as a whole has received normal rainfall, Srinagar, Budgam, Bandipora, Kathua, Jammu, and Shopian have all recorded deficient rainfall.
In Srinagar, the rainfall was 20% lower than the normal 113.5 mm, with only 91.3 mm recorded. Budgam and Bandipora saw 39% and 43% lower rainfall respectively. Shopian recorded a 38% decrease, while Jammu and Kathua saw 41% and 38% deficiency. On the other hand, seven districts in Jammu and Kashmir, including Anantnag, Doda, and Pulwama, recorded excess rainfall.
Snowfall Prediction
The Meteorological department has also predicted widespread light to moderate snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from February 9 afternoon, with a possibility of heavy snowfall over higher reaches until February 10. The night temperature has dropped, with Pahalgam recording a low of minus 7.6°C and Srinagar a low of minus 0.1°C.
The continued rainfall deficiency in six districts highlights the need for adequate measures to address the adverse impact on agriculture and the local economy.
